• A sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, or a curtain or shadow across your vision
• Severe eye pain, especially with redness, haloes around lights, headache or vomiting
• Any chemical splash, foreign body or physical injury to the eye
• Sudden double vision, or a sudden drooping eyelid
• Severe facial or jaw swelling, particularly with fever
• Difficulty breathing, swallowing or opening the mouth after a dental problem
• Uncontrolled bleeding after a dental procedure

5. Individual results vary

Descriptions of outcomes, recovery times and success rates on this site are typical ranges reported in clinical practice. Your own result depends on your diagnosis, the severity and duration of the condition, your general health, your age, other medications you take, and how closely aftercare instructions are followed.

8. Suitability for treatment

Where this website describes who a treatment is "suitable for", that is a general guide only. Suitability for LASIK, cataract surgery, dental implants, orthodontic treatment or any other intervention can only be determined by clinical examination and the relevant investigations. You may read that you are a likely candidate and be found on examination not to be, or the reverse.

9. Medicines and self-treatment

Nothing on this website should be used to select, start, stop or change the dose of any medicine, including eye drops. Prescription eye drops in particular — for example those used in glaucoma — must only be used under supervision, and stopping them can cause permanent harm.
